From the economic aspect, the longevity and lifetime productivity of cows are the key parameters, and they are often used as selection criteria in improvement of milk and dual-purpose breeds of cattle. Length of productive life in cows depends firstly ontheir performance, fertility and health. The length of productive life is related to production of animals in addition to their genetically conditioned functional characteristics. Relationship between type traits and longevity was evaluated separately in Holstein and Czech Fleckvieh cows. The relationship between functionally fundamental body conformation traits and longevity of cows was documented.
