| Abstract | For humans, milk is an important source of animal protein. It has three basic functions – nutritional, physiological and immunological. Milk proteins consist of caseins and whey proteins. Beta-casein (ß-casein = CSN2) accounts for up to 30% of the total milk proteins in cow’s milk. The aim of this study was to develop a method for determining genetic variants in the bovine beta-casein locus. The PCR-SNaPshot method was used to determine genetic variants in the coding region of exon 7 at amino acid (AA) positions 67, 72, 93, 106, 122, and 152. A highly efficient molecular genetic technique that is sensitive, reliable, with well-reproducible results and used to detect multiple (1-10) single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in one reaction. The detection of these variants is particularly important for the breeding dairy cattle breeding, the assessment of qualitative and technological parameters of cow’s milk, but also for the production of milk beneficial for people with casein intolerance. |
