| Abstract | The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between the cleanness of the body surface and sheep milk quality. Monitoring took place during two lactation periods with 434 ewes in the 2 dairy sheep farms. Cleanliness of the body surface ewes (tail head, upper rear limb, ventral abdomen, udder and lower rear limbs) was evaluated before milking according modified scales by Reneaua et al. After milking the individual milk samples were collected for the determination of selected microbiological parameters (total bacteria count – TBC, coliform bacteria – CB, somatic cells count – SCC). The experimental data were analyzed in the programme Statistica. Based on the obtained values it is possible to say that significantly the best body surface hygiene scores were achieved on the I.farm (1,64±0,493) and the worst scores were on the II.farm (2,50±0,321). Statistically significantly lower values of the TBC and CB were proved in sheep’s milk on the I.farm. The body surface hygiene score fully corresponded with the TBC and the number of CB in raw sheep’s milk. Cleanliness of the body surface of sheep reflects the level of hygiene breeding environment. |
