The conventional housing of sows in farrowing cages is being replaced by alternative systems. The paper deals with the bio-economic evaluation of alternative housing with temporary fixation of sows (i.e. combined system), specifically its influence on the level of animal performance. The evaluation took into account the production, reproductive and economic parameters of the Large White breed in 2023. The conventional system showed a total profit of 767 CZK/sow and a cost profitability of 0.54%. A slight improvement in herd turnover, animal growth while maintaining piglet losses to weaning would have a positive economic effect. The total profit would increase by 230 CZK/sow/year, the loss from the sale of slaughter animals decreased by 6% and amounted to 1.53 CZK per kg of slaughter weight. In case of an increase in piglet losses (by almost 2 piglets/sow/year), the loss was achieved even after taking into account subsidies (312 CZK/sow and year) and when selling slaughter animals, it would increase by 1/3. In the next article, we will focus on changes in the cost parameters of farm and the overall economics of the combined system.
