The Přeštice Black Pied breed has been a genetic resource of farm animals since 1992. The breeding herd in the Institute of Animal Science in Kostelec nad Orlicí was founded in 2009. In 2016, the herd first obtained the status of a nucleus herd.The conditions for granting the status of a nucleus herd are given by the Methodology for the Preservation of the Genetic Resources of Animals. Nucleus herd is of exceptional importance for the population of the genetic reserve. As part of research projects carried out at the workplace, sows are used to test and monitor reproductive characteristics and behavior in various types of housing for farrowing and lactating sows, sow insemination methods, or for the regeneration of selected lines of the breed.
